Employment-Based Training
Earn While You Learn
Traineeships combine paid employment with nationally recognised training, allowing you to gain practical skills and a qualification while working in your chosen industry.
Training is delivered as part of the Queensland Government Career Start Program (Traineeship Pathway).
What is a Traineeship?
A traineeship is an employment-based training pathway that:
- Requires you to be employed in a relevant industry role
- Involves a registered training contract between you and your employer
- Combines on-the-job learning with structured training and assessment
- Leads to a nationally recognised qualification
Eligibility Requirements
To enrol in a traineeship, you must:
- Be currently employed in a relevant role
- Have a registered training contract in place
- Meet Queensland Government eligibility requirements
- Not be currently enrolled in another qualification
Traineeships are not available for direct enrolment without employment

Business and Community Services
- BSB30120 Certificate III in Business
- CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services
Individual Support
- CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)
- CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Community Care)
- CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
Health
- HLT33021 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance
Hospitality
- SIT20421 Certificate II in Cookery
- SIT30622 Certificate III in Hospitality
How It Works
- You gain employment in a relevant industry
- A training contract is established with your employer
- A structured training plan is developed
- You undertake workplace-based learning and training
- You complete assessments and work tasks to achieve competency

- Mode: Workplace-based learning supported by face-to-face and/or blended training

Outcome
On successful completion of your traineeship, you will receive a: Nationally Recognised Qualification relevant to your employment
Funding Information
Government Subsidised Training – Traineeships
Traineeships may be supported under the Queensland Government Career Start Program (Traineeship Pathway).
Funding is provided to support training and assessment for eligible apprentices and trainees in approved qualifications.
Important Information
- Eligibility criteria apply and must be assessed for each student
- Funding is subject to a registered training contract
- Not all qualifications are available in all regions
- Funding availability is subject to change
Fees and Costs
Student contribution fees apply to traineeships and are calculated in accordance with Queensland Government funding arrangements.
Fees are determined based on:
- Nominal hours of the qualification
- Eligibility status (including concessional status where applicable)
Fees will be discussed and agreed upon prior to commencement of training.
Employers
Employers play a key role in traineeships by:
- Providing relevant employment and supervision
- Supporting the trainee to develop workplace skills
- Participating in the development of the training plan
